Former Kansas Jayhawks star Christian Braun could make some history

One year ago, Denver Nuggets forward Christian Braun was preparing to be selected in the upcoming NBA Draft just weeks after winning a national title. Flash forward one year later, Braun will be playing for an NBA title. The Nuggets punched their ticket to the 2023 NBA Finals this week, completing a sweep against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. Providing the Nuggets depth while coming off the bench in his rookie season, Braun averaged about five points a game, hitting nearly 50 percent of his field goals. Lisa and Don Braun couldn’t be prouder during this playoff run. Their son has been bringing a new level of energy to the Nuggets all season long. “He’s worked hard,” Lisa Braun said. “He’s gotten really good minutes. It’s even surprised us.” Playing for the Jayhawks prepared Braun for the NBA, especially on the defensive side of things. “Being so new to the NBA, of course it carries over. Coach Self…everybody rotates. They just put that in in Denver.” Braun’s favorite NBA player growing up watching the game was James. While that may seem a little intimidating going against someone you look up to, Don Braun said his son was ready due to the competition the NBA brings night in and night out. “Christian’s not intimidated,” his dad said. “His first week, he matched up against LeBron, Steph (Curry) and Damian Lillard. You have to be ready to go.” Braun is looking to make some history. If the Nuggets were to prevail over the Boston Celtics or Miami Heat in next month’s NBA Finals, he would be just the fifth player in league history to win an NBA title the year after winning a national title. If that wasn’t enough, he won multiple state titles at Blue Valley Northwest.
